Dana Al-Farhan, a 20-year-old junior from the United Arab Emirates, has been selected as an outstanding youth honoree by the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI). Al-Farhan, an international studies major with a double minor in Spanish and communications, organizes Students for Justice in Palestine and raises awareness about anti-migrant legislation. She will be honored during BCRI’s “Lessons of the Birmingham Movement: A Symposium on Youth, Activism and Struggle for Human Rights,” a weeklong gathering that will feature some of the country’s most prolific and outstanding civil rights activists and advocates.
“I feel really honored to have been selected to be recognized among other students doing great work on their campuses and in their communities,” Al-Farhan said. “I am looking forward to participating in workshops on utilizing the media as an organizing tool, because while personal relationships are vital in mobilizing fellow students and community members, new media is revolutionizing the way activists are organizing around the world.”Al-Farhan, an international studies major with a double minor in Spanish and communications raises awareness about anti-migrant legislation.
