UAB Mervyn H. Sterne Library has partnered with A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club to celebrate the organization’s Family Literacy Week. The event is in recognition of the club’s recent $5,000 Youth Literacy Grant presented by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
This week, the library joined with the Foundation’s KidzLit® program, Dollar General of Titusville and Georgia State University’s Panther Break Away to host community book drives and volunteer read-a-thons, as well as a presentation of the Green Power Book Award for club members demonstrating exemplary achievements in literacy and language arts.
The celebration concludes on Friday, Dec. 14, with a community pep rally and KidzLit® kickoff at the Club’s South Park location. Sterne Library will present a book donation, and Reference Librarian Imelda Vetter will serve as guest reader.
A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club is an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a nationwide organization of nearly 4,000 clubs with a similar core mission of serving some four million children and teens through club membership and community outreach.
