The UAB Center for Aging will hold its annual meeting Oct. 14, 2011, in the Hill University Center Great Hall. The poster competition begins at 9 a.m. with the formal program starting at 11:45 a.m.
The keynote speaker is J. Michael Gaziano, M.D., professor and chief of the Division on Aging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. His address, at 12:30 p.m., will be “Design and Implementation of the Million Veteran Program.”
The center will present its New Horizon Award to the Alabama AARP. The New Horizon Award recognizes nonprofit organizations that have worked to enhance the health and well-being of older adults in the community.
The Bynum Award, which honors an adult 75 years or older who continues to work to improve the health and well-being of older adults in the community, will be presented to Anne Warren.
Former UAB President J. Claude Bennett, M.D., will receive the McCallum Award, which recognizes an individual or organization that has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service on behalf of the Center for Aging and its mission.
The center also will present faculty awards to Julie Locher, Ph.D., for service, and to Richard V. Sims, M.D., for teaching.
