One-woman Broadway show to benefit women’s cancer care in Birmingham

Jenny_AllenAuthor and playwright Jenny Allen will perform her extraordinary one-woman Broadway show “I Got Sick Then I Got Better” one night only at 7 p.m. Sept. 1, 2011, in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. The show will benefit the Lynne Cohen and Norma Livingston Preventative Care Program for Women’s Cancers at UAB, which focuses on early detection and prevention to improve survival rates for women with increased chances for the disease and for women fighting the disease.

The clinic provides women at high risk for ovarian and breast cancer with access to specially trained genetics counselors, chemo-preventative medications and the latest early detection and prevention clinical trials. Allen, an ovarian cancer survivor, combines humor with emotion to portray the affect a life-threatening illness can have on an individual and a family.
