Firefighters Care Enough to Wear Pink

On Aug. 28 and 29, 2011, the “Pink Heals” tour — with its trademark pink fire trucks — will be making several pit stops throughout Birmingham, including one at the UAB lot in front of the Kirklin Clinic from 9:45-11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29.

http___bcrfaTo kick-off the statewide “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” T-shirt campaign, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and the Gardendale Fire Department secured a visit from the “Pink Heals” tour. The tour is led by firefighters who bring awareness to all women’s cancers by touring the country in pink fire trucks and pink gear. The tour’s mission is to celebrate women by wearing pink, to fight cancer alongside women and help local nonprofits raise money and awareness. The tour accepts donations and sells T-shirts to fund fuel and maintenance to get to the next location. All other monies raised stay in the host communities.

At all stops, including UAB, women are encouraged to sign the pink fire trucks and leave a personal message to encourage and inspire other women to keep fighting. The firefighters will visit and deliver flowers to women fighting cancer in the community.
