University of Alabama at Birmingham will host a community conversation on food insecurity, examining ways community groups and researchers could work together toward solutions. The virtual event is Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon.
In 2020, 13.8 million households were food insecure at some time during the year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. TheThe seminar is hosted by the Community Engagement Institute, part of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science based at UAB. The goal is to increase community awareness, share resources, and provide education and insight to effect positive change in communities.
Experts from the UAB School of Public Health, UAB Blazer Kitchen, Jones Valley Teaching Farm, Auburn University Hunger Solutions Institute, Harvest Community Charities and the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama will take part.

Community Engagement Institute Perspectives hosts engaged conversations that address focused topics of interest to communities to appreciate diverse points of view and to serve as a call to action for science, service and solutions. Drawing on a combination of formal presentations and moderated panels, this venue provides an agile and more frequent setting to respond to pressing issues. CEI Perspectives is a partnership with the UAB Center for the Study of Community Health, a CDC-sponsored Prevention Research Center.
