In recognition of his academic and professional excellence, Haque received the Fulbright Specialist Award to India

Akhlaque Haque, Ph.D.Akhlaque Haque, Ph.D., professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Political Science and Public Administration, has received the Senior Fulbright Nehru Scholar Award to India from the United States Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Haque is one of more than 400 U.S. citizens who will share expertise with host institutions abroad through the Fulbright Program and complete a project at the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur, exchanging knowledge and establishing mutually beneficial partnerships that will impact participants, institutions and communities.

“I am a second-generation Fulbrighter, and I am humbled to be selected for the second time from UAB,” Haque said. “As an area expert on South Asian Public Administration, I will work with faculty and students to build the information management specialization in the doctoral program in public policy at the Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur. I will also work with the Center for Excellence in Public Governance at IIM in offering workshops in public policy research.”

The Fulbright specialists are selected based on professional and academic achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field, and potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the United States and overseas.  

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State.
