Do you have a story about Cooper Green? A memory or a favorite anecdote? As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority is looking for stories from patients and employees past and present. Anyone can submit a story or memory, and the best will be captured for a 50th anniversary video.
Cooper Green was first called Mercy Hospital when it opened in 1972 as a 319-bed acute care hospital, owned by Jefferson County and providing medical services to all citizens of the county regardless of their ability to pay. In 1975, it was renamed to honor former Birmingham mayor Cooper Green. Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority is now an affiliate of the UAB Health System.
Those with a story to relate or a memory to share about how Cooper Green has had an impact on their life can tell their tale via e-mail, at cgmhs_marketing@uabmc.edu, or by phone at 205-930-3450. Some of those stories will then be selected for inclusion in the anniversary video, which will play on screens throughout the Cooper Green facility.
“So many of us at Cooper Green frequently encounter patients, health care professionals and others who share fond memories with us about Cooper Green,” said Raegan W. Durant, M.D., medical director for Cooper Green. “In so many instances, individuals have been former patients, spanning many phases of care including some being born at Cooper Green decades ago. Others nostalgically recount work or professional training experiences at Cooper Green. To celebrate our 50 years of outstanding medical care at Cooper Green, we want to hear these and many other stories from current and former patients, physicians, nurses, other employees and past students and trainees. Help us celebrate by recalling your favorite memories of Cooper Green.”
