University of Alabama at Birmingham chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama/Public Relations Student Society of America has brought home an unprecedented number of awards this year from the annual Public Relations Council of Alabama competition.
TheUAB students competed against every other major university in Alabama for these awards. Students brought home six Medallion Awards — out of the nine awarded in the competition. The Medallion Award is the highest award offered and recognizes exceptional talent and skill in the field of public relations. In addition, UAB students secured 15 Awards of Excellence — out of a total of 23 — and four Awards of Merit — out of a total of 11.
The UAB PRCA/PRSSA chapter is advised by Jacquelyn S. Shaia, J.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor in UAB’s Department of Communication Studies.
“These awards are judged by out-of-state practicing public relations professionals” Shaia said. “The students’ hard work is readily recognized by other public relations professionals in the field as examples of discipline, competency and achievement. I am very, very proud of this chapter and these students.”
