The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in honor of its new outdoor walking trail Thursday, Oct. 24.
School of Education Dean Autumn Tooms Cyprès, Ed.D.; Assistant Vice President for Student Health and Wellbeing Rebecca Kennedy, Ph.D.; and USGA School of Education Senator and President of SOE Ambassadors Lucas Riley will cut the ribbon for the new half-mile trail that wraps around the UAB School of Education, Sterne Library and Mini Park.
“Health and wellness is a priority for the School of Education because our mission is centered on the intersections of teaching, learning, health and wellness,” Cyprès said. “We learn more and stretch our possibilities further when we are in a healthy place both mentally and physically in the classroom.”
UAB Employee Wellness Director Anna Threadcraft says the new walking trail can help students and employees relieve stress during busy days.
“We know exercise is important, but it’s often a challenge to incorporate it into our busy schedules,” Threadcraft said. “Creating an established walking trail around UAB, specifically for the School of Education, makes it even easier for employees to turn a working meeting into a walking meeting, or walk outside for a quick loop to shake off some stress from the day instead of visiting the vending machine. Every wellness effort counts, and the walking trail is one more way that UAB makes it possible for employees to live well within the workplace.”
