Raise money for a good cause and have a good time in the University of Alabama at Birmingham 5K/10K Scholarship Run, this year with a new day and time, at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 11.
Hosted by the UAB National Alumni Society, the Scholarship Run is presented by Viva Health.
Each May, the UAB National Alumni Society hosts its annual Scholarship Run. Started in 2007, the Scholarship Run has allowed the NAS to raise nearly $750,000 to help support student scholarships. The Scholarship Run has established itself as an exceptional race through the streets of Birmingham. In 2018, the UAB National Alumni Society hosted more than 700 people for the race and raised almost $70,000 to support UAB student scholarships.
This is the first time in more than a decade the race will be held on a Saturday. The 5K/10K will begin at the UAB Alumni House and follow a new course around UAB’s campus and through the heart of downtown Birmingham. The race will be chipped and timed. There will be a post-race party to follow at the UAB Alumni House, with fun, family-friendly activities, live entertainment and local craft beer.
This year, the NAS has also added the option for a virtual run. Those who cannot make it to the race or cannot run can still support student scholarships by signing up to participate in spirit and receive a T-shirt.
Registration, open now through Thursday, May 9, is $30. On race day, registration is $35. Participants can register online or in person on race day, starting at 6:30 a.m. Volunteer opportunities are also available online.
The race route is posted online. The starting point is the corner of 14th Street South and 10th Avenue South. The course will proceed east on 10th Avenue South, right onto 18th Street South, left onto 10th Court South, left onto 11th Avenue South, left onto Magnolia Avenue South, left onto 22nd Street South, left onto First Avenue South, left onto 14th Street South and back onto 10th Avenue South.
