UAB is offering a plethora of summer camps for children and teens, focused on providing educational, creative and recreational experiences.As summer break approaches, the University of Alabama at Birmingham is offering a wide range of educational and enrichment opportunities for students through departments across the university.
Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop
The Ada Long day camp will be open to 35 rising ninth-12th grade students interested in creative writing. With the guidance of nationally recognized authors, students will draft, edit and publish their work. They will gather inspiration from Birmingham’s rich history and culture via field trips and activities.
Cost to attend is $800, with an additional college credit hour for $368. The camp will be from June 8-19, and sessions will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.

CampBIZ
UAB’s Collat CampBIZ is an exciting weeklong, business-focused summer day camp held in the Collat School of Business for Birmingham-area high school students. Campers participate in interactive, fun workshops designed to engage and educate them in a safe learning environment where new friends are met while receiving an introduction to business as a career. Lunch is provided each day, and every camper receives commemorative gifts.

Camp CSI
Camp CSI: Birmingham is designed to show high school students, grades 10-12, the reality behind the forensic science that is depicted across television dramas. Students will learn how to collect, preserve, secure, analyze and present evidence using current-generation equipment and methods used in forensic-based laboratories.
- Date: June 8-12, 2026
- Time: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Ages: 10th-12th grades (includes rising 10th graders and graduated seniors)
- Cost: $250 per student plus $150 non-refundable registration fee ($400 total). Cost of the camp includes lunch and a snack each day.
The deadline to register is Sunday, May 31, and is limited to 20 participants for each camp session, offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Computer science camp
Middle school and high school students interested in diving into the world of computer science have several opportunities to learn from the UAB Department of Computer Science faculty this summer.

Civil, construction and environmental engineering camp
Civil engineering is a broad discipline that covers almost everything in the world around us. This camp with the UAB School of Engineering packs a lot of hands-on experiences into two days, teaching participants about the science behind our built environment — from buildings, roads and bridges to water supplies and even the air we breathe. The camp will include tours of UAB’s campus as well as visits to local construction sites. Cost of the camp is $200. That covers all materials, transportation between sites, lunches, a UAB T-shirt and a hardhat.

CORD camps
The UAB Center for OutReach Development offers hands-on science summer learning experiences for students entering fifth through 12th grades. Each offering is grade-specific and focuses on areas that the student will be learning in the following school year.
Fifth grade camps will be offered July 13-17 and July 20-24. Middle school camps will be offered weekly from June 8-July 3 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and the high school camps weekly from June 1-July 31 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Drone academy
Dozens of custom-made flyers will come to life at the UAB School of Engineering’s Drone Academies. The school will be hosting three one-week summer camps this year for high-school-age students.
Participants at the camps will design and build their own remote-controlled vehicles before testing them against a series of obstacles. Cost to attend is $200, and financial assistance is available for select students.

Electrical engineering camp
This new UAB camp puts participants on the frontlines of tomorrow’s technology. UAB School of Engineering faculty members will lead the camp, and participants will learn fundamental coding skills needed to design and build robots, while utilizing artificial intelligence effectively in their work. Cost to attend is $25 per camper.

Mechanical engineering camp
Experience engineering through the design, fabrication and testing of a tabletop version of the classic trebuchet. Campers will get hands-on experience with the design and fabrication process, utilizing tools such as computer modeling, 3D printing and rapid prototyping. Cost of the camp is $200.

Philosophy camp
The UAB Department of Philosophy is hosting a summer day camp where students will explore readings, spend time puzzling over classic philosophical questions, and learn how to develop and defend their own views as well as how to engage thoughtfully with those who disagree with them.
The middle school camp for rising sixth through eighth graders will be June 8-12, and the high school camp for rising ninth through 12th graders will be June 15-19. Cost to attend is $135 and includes lunch. Registration will close on Friday, May 1.

Pre-law camp
The Journey to Attorney summer camp, hosted by the UAB Pre-Law program, is for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in a professional career that includes exploring attending law school or a career in law.
The camp will be held July 11-17, and students will learn, perfect and perform trial skills through a reimagining of the Scottsboro Nine case. At the end of the week, students will present a full mock trial of the case in a real courtroom before friends and family.

STARTALK camp
The 2026 STARTALK summer camp invites students to explore the intersection of language and creativity from June 15-19. Guided by the theme “Art Enhances Life: A Journey Through Chinese Language and Culture,” our curriculum integrates linguistic mastery with artistic expression. While specifically structured to accommodate absolute beginners, the program offers a differentiated approach that welcomes and challenges students who already possess Chinese language knowledge.
The comprehensive program spans five days and 40 instructional hours, providing a deep dive into the language in a vibrant, on-site setting. The camp is free attend and includes daily lunch and snacks for all participants.
Only 15 students, grades nine-12 or in their first two years of college, will be accepted.

Symphonic band camp
Current seventh through 12th grade students are invited to come June 7-13 for a week of fantastic music-making at the 2026 symphonic band camp. Opportunities include a full band experience, small ensemble participation, and training in marching band leadership, music theory, literature, conducting, music technology and jazz improvisation. Camp registration is $500 if registered before April 27.

URec camps
UAB University Recreation summer camps offer fun and active experiences for kids packed with adventure sports, creative crafts, aquatic activities and more. Camps are open to children ages 5-12, and run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., May 26-Aug. 7, with select days off. Registration for all camps closes two weeks in advance to the camp, or once our camper capacity is reached.
