Annaleigh Ashford in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again" (2016)Broadway star and television/film actress Annaleigh Ashford will work with theater students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from March 31-April 1.
Ashford’s residency is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Theatre. She will present two workshops and two coaching sessions with students.
Ashford will also offer a Q-and-A session at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in the Sirote Theatre at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. The Q-and-A is open to the public on a first come, first served basis.
Ashford was seen most recently on Broadway as Dot opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” and The Public Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park “Midsummer Night’s Dream” as Helena. She won the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for her portrayal of Essie in “You Can’t Take it With You.” Other Broadway credits include Sylvia in “Sylvia,” the original Lauren in “Kinky Boots” (for which she garnered Clarence Derwent Award, Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations), Glinda in “Wicked,” Jeannie in “Hair” and the original Margot in “Legally Blonde the Musical.” Off-Broadway credits include Dot in “Sunday in the Park with George” at Encores! Maureen in “Rent” and Marcie in “Dogfight.” Ashford played Betty on Showtime’s critically acclaimed “Masters of Sex.” Other television and film credits include Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated 2018 FX miniseries “American Crime Story: Versace,” The Woody Allen Summer Project, the upcoming film “Second Act,” Columbia in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Fox, “Nurse Jackie,” “The Big C,” “Law & Order,” “Law & Order SVU,” “Smash,” “Unicorn Store,” “Sex and the City,” “Better Off Single,” “Top Five,” “Rachel Getting Married,” and “Frozen.” Her critically acclaimed solo show, “Annaleigh Ashford: Lost in the Stars” at 54 Below was released by Broadway Records in 2016.
