University of Alabama at Birmingham to interact with some of the greatest performers and teachers in the country.
Each year, clarinet players from around the country converge on theThe 16th annual UAB Clarinet Symposium, scheduled for March 3-4, is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music, with Backun Musical Services and D’Addario Woodwinds.A free finale concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4. The concert is open to the public.
This year’s symposium will feature special guest artist Jessica Phillips, renowned Backun Artist and second and Eb clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. A dozen other professional clarinetists from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee will join the symposium as well, for a weekend filled with recitals, master classes, clinics, clarinet choirs, and opportunities to try instruments and equipment with vendors. Registration will include participation in all events and lunch for both Saturday and Sunday. All participants will perform in the final clarinet choirs recital at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
