Student showcase "Seven" set for Nov. 9 in UAB DAAH new experimental exhibition venue, Project Space

A series of showcases by UAB Department of Art and Art History students will be featured this fall in Project Space, located on the first floor of the UAB Humanities Building.

project spaceStudents and faculty in the University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Art and Art History have a new place to showcase art and support creative investigation, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Project Space is an adaptive space that will provide an alternative platform for students, faculty and community to engage teaching, research, public service and visual art practices. New events have been planned there for fall 2015.

Project Space is in the UAB Humanities Building, 900 13th St. South, on the first floor. It is open during project-specific dates and hours or by appointment. For questions, to schedule use of Project Space or to arrange a visit, contact Project Space director Jared Ragland at Raglandj@uab.edu.

“Hither and Yon,” co-sponsored by The Fuel and Lumber Company and featuring works by Craig Drennan, Jane Fox Hipple, Astri Snodgrass and Jered Sprecher. Open 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays, and by appointment.

UAB Student Showcase, featuring works from UAB DAAH Adjunct Professor Lanette Parker’s Figure Drawing course.

Monday, Nov. 9

UAB Student Showcase "Seven," featuring works from UAB DAAH Adjunct Professor Lanette Parker’s Advanced Painting course. Works in this one-night-only showcase explore advanced studies in painting and drawing with an emphasis on in-depth, individually generated projects. Participating students are Brandon Berry, Leigh Ann Barrett-Sousa, Wesley Holmes, Sav Owen, Vincent Rizzo, Sarah Warren and Anna Zoladz. Open 6-8 p.m.

Medium: The Art Club at UAB pin-up show, featuring works by members.

Friday, Dec. 4

“Co-Memory and The Motion of Falling Bodies,” a one-night-only student showcase. To be featured are works from ARS 495/595: The Collected Narrative class, created by students Daniel Senko, Ellie Banks, Erin Croxton, Jacob Phillips, Jourdan Cunningham, Katie Walden, Laura Mitchell, Lauren Harbison, Lucy Allen, Melody Hollenbeck and Mickey Barrett under the direction of DAAH adjunct faculty member Jenny Fine. Using storytelling as the foundation for this studio seminar, students combined their creative skill sets to create a series of semesterlong collaborative installations. Open 6-8 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

Stories from the Line, featuring student documentary film and photography projects from the DAAH Stories from the Line: Documenting Poverty course, taught by Michele Forman, director of UAB Media Studies, and DAAH Adjunct Professor Jared Ragland.
