The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music’s Chamber Trio recently completed a concert tour of Virginia and North Carolina during the month of October. Associate Professor of Music Denise Gainey, DMA, clarinet, and Assistant Professor of Music James Zingara, DMA, trumpet, with former UAB Department of Music faculty member Dale Williams, piano, traveled more than 2,000 miles, performed five formal recitals and gave two master classes during the five-day tour. During the tour, they visited Virginia Commonwealth University, Emory and Henry University, Mars Hill University, East Carolina University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Program highlights included the world premiere performance of “Ich bin Maroon” by UAB Associate Professor of Music William Price, DMA, as well as Gordon Jacob’s Double Concerto and “The Two Dances” by Walter Hartley. In addition, the concerts featured additional solo pieces including a transcription of Georg Philipp Telemann’s Concerto in B-flat for trumpet, and Leo Weiner’s “Peregi Verbunk (Hungarian Dance)” for clarinet and piano.
