Novelist Kathryn Davis will read from her works at the University of Alabama at Birmingham at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. The free, public event will take place in the Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. South, and is sponsored by the UAB Department of English and the Birmingham Area Consortium for Higher Education.Davis, who has penned seven novels, is probably best known for her books “The Thin Place,” which tells the story of a small New England village shaken by the otherworldly gift of a young girl, and “Versailles: A Novel,” a tale on the life of French queen Marie Antoinette. Her most recent book, “Duplex,” which chronicles the lives of characters living in the multiple-unit house, debuted this year and was noted in the New York Times last month.
Davis is the senior fiction writer in the writing program at Washington University in St. Louis. She has received a Kafka Prize for fiction by an American woman, the Morton Dauwen Zabel Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 2006, she won the Lannan Foundation Literary Award.
After the reading, Davis will open the floor for a Q-and-A session and conclude with a book signing. Little Professor will sell books at the event.
The BACHE Visiting Writers’ Series will conclude with novelist Sheri Joseph on Nov. 20 at Hulsey Recital Hall at 6 p.m.
