Arts Block Party, 5-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus.
Enjoy an unforgettable evening of art, live music and mouthwatering food trucks at theJoin UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, ArtPlay Community Education and Arts in Medicine as they officially launch their 2024-2025 programming. The Arts Block Party will now take place indoors at AEIVA and the Alys Stephens Center due to weather considerations. The vibrant celebration of culture and arts is free and open to the public.
- Kick off the night at 5 p.m. at AEIVA with an artist lecture by internationally acclaimed artist Odili Donald Odita.
- See three new exhibitions of works opening at AEIVA including a mid-career survey of works by Odita; works by Mumbai-born, Los Angeles-based artist Manjari Sharma; and “Outside Lines: Selections from AEIVA’s Permanent Collection.”
- Starting at 6 p.m., see live performances from Alabama musicians in the Alys Stephens Center’s Jemison Concert Hall. This year’s Arts Block Party will showcase performances by four talented local musicians and bands: Halo Wheeler, Swanglish, The BIG Reveal, and Steph and the Web.
- There will be fun activities for the whole family in the ArtPlay Kids’ Zone, in the Alys Stephens Center's upper lobby, and the Arts in Medicine Wellness Zone, in the Sirote Theatre.
- Explore the local vendors and enjoy delicious offerings from a selection of food trucks.
