University of Alabama at Birmingham is fighting oral cancer by providing free screenings the week of April 15-19.
TheThe screenings, hosted by the departments of Otolaryngology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, will take a few minutes to conduct and will include a check for lesions and lumps inside the mouth and on the neck. If anything concerning is found during the screening, a follow-up appointment with UAB Medicine will be scheduled.
Individuals who may be at risk for oral cancer include those who:
- use tobacco or alcohol
- are infected with HPV
- have a mass or pain in the head, neck or mouth
Screenings will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery lobbies at the following locations:
