University of Alabama at Birmingham this summer will walk in commencement exercises Friday, Aug. 12, and Saturday, Aug. 13, in Bartow Arena.
Nearly 1,000 students graduating from theThe university will host two ceremonies: the first for graduate students at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, and the second for undergraduates at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. More than 1,700 students will graduate from UAB this summer.
For summer 2022, the UAB Graduate School will confer the university’s highest degrees on 147 students from 25 states and 18 countries, representing 34 disciplines. All graduate students — master’s, educational specialist and doctoral — will participate in Friday’s combined commencement and doctoral hooding ceremony.
There is no limit on the number of guests who can attend. Parking will be free. There will be no handshake with the president or deans, but graduates will have their photo taken. Students are asked to wear flat shoes. Full details are available on the UAB commencement website.

During the ceremonies, the mace will be carried by Distinguished Professor Eugenia Kharlampieva, Ph.D., in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Chemistry. Kharlampieva is a polymer and materials chemist with research interests in the design and synthesis of polymeric materials for biomedical applications.
