Kids can enjoy a safe summer camp from home this summer with ArtPlay’s new, virtual summer camps.
ArtPlay will present three versions of its award-winning Discovering the Visual Arts and musical theater camps, now online.
For its musical theater camps, ArtPlay will use two popular musicals as the basis for its first two camps; the third camp, for older students, will be made up of musical theater master classes. Each day, campers will participate in dance, music and acting classes, taught by local teaching artists.
For summer 2020, ArtPlay Musical Theatre will present:
- Camp A, with music from “Disney’s Jungle Book, Kids,” for ages 7-12, June 1-12, with directors Jennifer Salvant, Reid Watson and Melody Turnbow. From 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Cost is now $320, $100 off.
- Camp B, with music from “Disney’s Frozen, Kids,” for ages 7-12, June 15-26, with directors Valerie Lemmons, Reid Watson and Charles Henry. From 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Cost is now $320, $100 off.
- Camp C, “ArtPlay Master Camp,” for ages 12-18, July 6-24, with directors Reid Watson, Valerie Lemmons and Charles Henry. From 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Cost is $450 for three weeks.
Discovering the Visual Arts camp offers classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts and more. ArtPlay’s engaging teaching artists will cover a wide range of projects and offer something new and something familiar each day as they strive to make the classes as interactive as possible.
Camp 1 is June 22-26; Camp 2 is July 13-17; and Camp 3 is July 27-31, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Teaching artists will be Caroline Trewhella, Rodney Porterfield and Tonya Wise. Class capacity for each class is 21 students. Cost is $200 and includes supplies from Alabama Art Supply; cost is $175 if campers buy their own supplies from the provided list.
