Laboratory and clinical research have been integral to the solid organ transplant programs at UAB since their inception.

Including efforts in such diverse areas as organ preservation, immunosuppressant development, transplant immunology, virology and histocompatibility, UAB researchers have been at the forefront of advancing the science of transplantation. The role of the CTI is to help facilitate expansion of these research efforts by building strong links to basic and translational research, promoting organ-specific clinical research driving innovative diagnostics and therapeutics, and integrating research themes across organ systems as possible at only a handful of US transplant centers.
