Meet Charlie T. Pritchard, M.D, one of UAB's faculty members in the Department of Radiology.
What is your full name, title, and position?
Charles Thomas Pritchard, MD, clinical assistant professor in the neuroradiology section.
Where are you from?
I’m from Pass Christian, MS, a small coastal town.
Why did you choose to work at UAB?
During my residency and fellowship training, I came to realize that UAB is a very special place. It is an exceptionally well-run hospital and health system, with excellent clinicians, staff, and leadership. To me, the most important thing is providing quality care, and that’s easier to achieve when you’re at a place like this. Additionally, I love the collegiality of the radiology department, and I’m a big fan of our neuro section chief, Dr. Vee.
Why did you choose radiology?
During medical school, I came to realize that the diagnostic aspect of medicine was what I found to be the most satisfying and enjoyable, not disease management and treatment. Additionally, the complexity of radiology was appealing, and the fact that radiologists encounter uncommon and interesting pathology fairly frequently.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to be the best neuroradiologist I can be, and to be trusted and respected by the referring clinicians. I also hope to be an effective teacher, and one that residents enjoy working with.
What are your professional interests?
All of neuroradiology.
What are your personal hobbies?
Although I wouldn’t describe it as a hobby, spending time with my wife and our newborn daughter is what I like to do when I’m not working. I also enjoy running and walking. Pre-baby, I used to play tennis and write short stories as well.
