The University of Alabama at Birmingham's Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine is proud to announce that Mark E. Lockhart, M.D., MPH, and Desiree E. Morgan, M.D., have been appointed presidents of two prominent national radiology societies
Lockhart has been named president of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, the largest ultrasound-focused national society in the United States. "The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound represents the largest ultrasound-focused national society in the United States, and we are proud to have recently expanded our membership to scientists and sonographers," Lockhart said. "It is an honor to lead such an accomplished group of individuals as we strive to improve the quality of ultrasound for all patients."
Morgan has been appointed president of the Society for Advanced Body Imaging. "I am honored and thrilled to serve the Society for Advanced Body Imaging as its president," Morgan said. "Our members strive to translate innovations in advanced imaging technology to clinical practice—whether those advancements involve the latest scanners, image acquisition sequences, or artificial intelligence applications that help us care for our patients more effectively. The society also focuses on professional development through mentorship and education, which I applaud."
Morgan noted the society's evolution with technological advances over the years. "At its inception in 1979, the organization was named the Society for Computed Body Tomography, and one of its first presidents was Robert J. Stanley, MD, the UAB Department of Radiology chair who hired me as a resident in 1989," she said.
Both Lockhart and Morgan have made significant contributions to the field of radiology, bringing national recognition to UAB's radiology department through their leadership and dedication.
