Yu-Hua Dean Fang, Ph.D., associate professor in the Division of Advanced Medical Imaging Research, and adjunct faculty of Neurology, and Steven Rothenberg, M.D., assistant professor of Diagnostic Radiology, an associate scientist at the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), and director of the imaging informatics fellowship program, have taken over leadership of the Artificial Intelligence in Imaging (AII) group as co-directors. This group meets monthly to discuss AI research and clinical implementation of AI, invite vendor presentations and develop research pathways for AI in imaging.

Yu-Hua Dean Fang, Ph.D., focuses on image quantification and analysis research. A major field of application is on the kinetic modeling analysis for PET imaging. He has also been extensively involved in image processing of CT, MR and SPECT while the clinical areas include Neurology, Oncology and Cardiology. Galgano completed his undergraduate training and medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He then completed his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, during which he acted as chief resident in his final year. He completed fellowships in both molecular imaging and therapeutics as well as abdominal imaging at the University of Alabama at Birmingham prior to joining the faculty. 

Steven Rothenberg, M.D., has led the research efforts evaluating the efficacy of several AI products that are deployed clinically within the Department of Radiology. Rothenberg is currently the principal investigator (PI) on two industry sponsored AI collaborations and developed technology at UAB licensed to industry partners. He is a serial entrepreneur on a mission to unlock value by connecting key stakeholders to progress novel and impactful technologies to transform healthcare. His research interests include imaging informatics, opportunistic population health screening, and neuroscience.
