Angel A. Gómez-Cintrón, M.D., completed medical school and residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.He then pursued fellowship training in Musculoskeletal Radiology at UT Health San Antonio.
Dr. Gómez-Cintrón is a long time academic radiologist and has served as the Radiology residency program director and chief of the musculoskeletal and body imaging sections at the University of Puerto Rico, University of Alabama at Birmingham and UT Health San Antonio. He has served in different leadership positions including chief of MRI, director of outpatient imaging centers, chair of diversity and inclusion committees and director of medical student education among other roles. He is passionate about education, physician wellness advocacy, inclusion and mentorship. His main areas of clinical expertise are musculoskeletal imaging and intervention as well as emergency radiology. J. Stephen Spann, Jr., M.D. completed undergraduate training at Vanderbilt University majoring in Chemistry before moving home to Birmingham to complete medical school and radiology residency at UAB. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology with his diagnostic radiology certificate earned in 2010. He subsequently completed a Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship which was a joint fellowship between UAB and Radiology Associates of Birmingham at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham. After a short period in private practice he joined the Birmingham VA Medical Center as a Staff Radiologist in 2012. There his passion for teaching residents was discovered and he enjoyed teaching MSK Radiology to the residents as well as enjoying a clinical practice inclusive of MSK, Neuroradiology and General Radiology. He served as the MSK section chief and Chair of MRI Safety at the VA prior to joining UAB Radiology to begin a career in Emergency Radiology and MSK. While at the VA he began facilitating the Rheumatology-Radiology Conference with the UAB Rheumatology Fellows. His clinical interests are MSK and emergency imaging and resident and fellow education.
