Matthew W. Roberts, M.D. completed undergraduate training at Weber State University, in Utah before moving back home to Memphis, Tennessee to complete medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha in his final year of medical school.

Dr. Roberts completed an internship and radiology residency at the UT Methodist Radiology Residency Program. Dr. Roberts then went into private practice in Memphis where he served as a general radiologist reading all modalities, including a significant volume of MSK and neuro MRI. However, he had a desire to work in a larger teaching hospital and rejoined the UT group as an overnight staff radiologist where he worked closely with residents at a Level 1 trauma center in Memphis. These early post-residency years were instrumental in Dr. Roberts’ growth as a radiologist and he was excited to enter the growing field of emergency radiology.

Dr. Roberts joined the UAB emergency radiology section in August 2017 and has thoroughly enjoyed working with the excellent residents the program is known for. He was honored to receive a “Top Ten” faculty teaching award in his first year. He believes it is important to give residents autonomy and takes a mentor approach to teaching; providing oversight, correction, and advice to residents when needed. He is enthusiastic and strives to be an encouraging and supportive faculty member.

Dr. Roberts primary interests are in emergency and trauma imaging. He has served as a contributor for the ACR Emergency Radiology CPI module and plans to continue submitting cases and writing questions for future editions.
