Cheri Canon, M.D., FACR, will transition from the role of Chief Clinical Officer for the UAB Medicine ambulatory practice to the role of UAB Health System Chief Clinical Integration Officer.
Dr. Canon, professor and chair of Radiology in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, sits on UAB Medicine Joint Operating Leadership Council, which is the senior leadership team for the health system, and is a member on the board of the physician practice. The role of Chief Clinical Integration Officer is a natural progression of the work she has done as Chief Clinical Officer. In this new part-time role, she will drive integration and alignment of the UA Health Services Foundation clinical department faculty within UAB Health System affiliate facilities, ensure effective operational systems and processes are in place to foster UAB faculty engagement, and coordinate the development of expanded clinical services offered at affiliate hospitals, like UAB Medical West. She will continue her role as chair of the Department of Radiology.
“In her role as Chief Clinical Officer for Ambulatory Services, Dr. Canon has been instrumental in dynamic improvements made within our ambulatory services,” says UAB Health System CEO Dawn Bulgarella. “We are transitioning her expertise toward assisting in the integration efforts of our clinical providers and our health system affiliates. This integration is key to achieving UAB Medicine’s mission of providing high quality health care to citizens across Alabama.”
Dr. Canon says, “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Patricia Pritchett, the ambulatory practice team, and especially Andy Hare and the Access Center. I am proud of what this team has accomplished. I am now looking forward to the opportunities for our clinical practice as we thoughtfully expand our reach and create additional access for UAB patients.”
The transition will be effective July 1, 2023. An internal search among faculty will begin immediately to fill the role of Chief Clinical Officer for Ambulatory Services.
