The Community Psychiatry Program in the UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology has moved to a new space in the recently completed Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Building as of Feb. 10. The new space will allow the division to better serve its specialized patient population and expand its treatment services.
“Relocating the division to the new space allows for expansion and provides a refreshing modern work environment for faculty and staff, as well as a much-improved care experience for patients and their families,” said Harry Findley, MSW, LICSW, director of the Division of Public Psychiatry.
The program had previously been housed in the Community Care Building since 1993. The building, also known as the Byrd Building from a time prior to its use by UAB, is one of the oldest remaining buildings on campus and has been scheduled for demolition for several years.
The new, 15,000-square-foot space is on the fourth floor of the recently completed Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Building, where Findley said the larger footprint and updated amenities will allow providers to expand and improve their day treatment program and community treatment services.
“Expanding services will allow us to better meet the needs of the community,” Findley said. “Additionally, we’ll be in a better location for collaboration with others in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology. As we’ve traditionally been a source for study recruitment, we hope our new location will make this even easier.”
The Community Psychiatry Program offers a range of services including evaluations, psychotherapy, individualized psychiatric care from a comprehensive care team, psychopharmacology, and more.
