danielle powell 550x413UAB Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, Danielle Powell, M.D., has been invited to join the Board of Directors for United Ability.

United Ability is a comprehensive nonprofit organization committed to serving individuals of all ages with disabilities. Its mission is to empower people with disabilities to live full and meaningful lives through innovative programs and services. From early intervention programs for children to adult services promoting independence, inclusion, and employment opportunities, United Ability provides a broad spectrum of support to the community it serves.

“I am excited to join the Board of Directors for United Ability, and I have happily accepted the opportunity. Their work aligns with my passion for supporting individuals with disabilities, and I am honored to contribute to this impactful organization,” said Dr. Powell.

Dr. Powell joined UAB’s Department of PM&R in 2011 and has been a transformative force ever since. Her primary clinical interests include Cancer Rehabilitation, Cerebral Palsy, and Spina Bifida. She serves as the Director of the Adult Multidisciplinary Spina Bifida Clinic and is an integral part of the STEP Clinic (Staging Transition in Every Patient), a collaborative initiative with Med/Peds and Neurology that assists young adults with complex chronic health conditions in transitioning from pediatric to adult healthcare. Additionally, Dr. Powell is actively involved in the Ability Clinic, a partnership with Cahaba Health located at Mr. E’s Place on United Ability’s campus.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Powell is deeply engaged in medical education. She is one of 11 Learning Community Lead Mentors for the UAB School of Medicine, shaping and inspiring the next generation of physicians.
