Q&A with Dr. Rathore
Q: Can you describe some of your day-to-day activities?
A: I am currently working on a project that is exploring the effect of virtual reality walking to alleviate chronic neuropathic pain in individuals with spinal cord injury. It is a multi-site project involving Virginia Commonwealth University, The University of New South Wales, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition, I am working to conceptualize and design a study with the main focus on transfers and falls in persons with disability. My mentor, Dr. Rachel Cowan, helps improve my research skills while making progress in my career.
Q: What is your favorite part of the job?
A: My favorite part of the job is being able to apply my background training in physical therapy, kinesiology, and biomechanics! Working in an international multidisciplinary team setting and learning about home-based interventions has been quite interesting! Last but not least, my one-on-one interactions with Dr. Cowan is my favorite part of the job.
Q: Where are you originally from?
A: I am originally from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. My city is nationally known for its food options which explains me being picky about my food choices. Indore has also been ranked as the cleanest city in India!
I met my husband in Indore while pursuing my bachelor's in physical therapy from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. I received my master's in kinesiology from Boise State University, Boise, Idaho. I have my Ph.D. in Neuromotor Science from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Most of my free time is spent taking care of my two adorable sons who are 2 years and 4 months old. I love spending time with my husband and kids and talking to my lovely family back in India!
