The UAB Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is thrilled to welcome assistant professor, Dr. Elizabeth Richardson.

Richardson received her doctorate in Medical/Clinical Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham

Dr. Richardson received her Ph.D. in Medical/Clinical Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed an internship in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Florida in Gainesville and a postdoctoral fellowship in Rehabilitation Psychology at UAB in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Dr. Richardson also completed her MSPH at UAB with a concentration in Clinical Research and Biostatistics.

Dr. Richardson’s clinical practice includes assessment and treatment of adults with chronic pain, spinal cord injury, or other traumatic or non-traumatic injuries within a multidisciplinary framework of care.  

She has conducted and published research in the areas of behavioral/non-pharmacological treatment of spinal cord injury-related neuropathic pain and psychosocial factors that mediate rehabilitation outcomes.  Dr. Richardson’s current research examines effective components of virtual reality as a potential treatment modality and psychological aspects of pain perception.  She enjoys teaching and engaging students at all levels of the research process.
