Established by the Center to Advance Palliative Care and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Palliative Care Leadership CentersTM (PCLC) have trained almost half of the nation′s hospital palliative care programs. The PCLC at UAB is one of only nine institutions in the United States to receive designation as a training center. The PCLC at UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care has trained more than 101 facilities from across the U.S.A. and in Seoul, Korea.
The PCLCs offer training to interdisciplinary teams seeking to develop or strengthen palliative care programs in their own institution. During PCLC training, attendees have the opportunity to meet with palliative care clinicians, administrators, and institutional leaders from UAB and the Birmingham VAMC in a series of interactive sessions that make up a comprehensive curriculum. The program offers intensive, operational training.
The trainings offer concrete tools and proven steps to program planning to provide the knowledge and tools needed to successfully establish, strengthen, and sustain an effective palliative care program. Additionally, attendees will continue to benefit from the expertise of the PCLCs through a post-training mentoring program developed to ensure successful implementation and application of skills and tools gained at the training.
