Department of Orthopaedic Surgery faculty as well as a research fellow were recently featured in the journal of Orthopaedics & Traumatology: Surgery & Research for their article: “Outcomes of surgical fixation of greater tuberosity fractures: A systematic review.”
Authors of the study included Amit M. Momaya, M.D., Eugene W. Brabston, M.D., Brent Ponce, M.D., and Alexandra M. Arguello, B.S. (research fellow). According to the article, the purpose of the study is to report the clinical outcomes of surgically treated isolated greater tuberosity fractures, as well as diagnostic workup and complications associated with fracture fixation.
The study found that ninety three percent of patients were able to return to work and a total of 15.1% complications were reported. Overall there were satisfactory functional outcomes and minimal occupational morbidity following either open or arthroscopic fixation of isolated greater tuberosity fractures despite a notable rate of complications.
