Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery is a team of specialty physicians, practitioners and nurses dedicated to providing the most advanced care for urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and other pelvic floor disorders in women. UAB is the only provider in Alabama with post-residency fellowship-trained physicians specializing in urogynecology.

Academically, we have an ABOG-certified, three-year Female Pelvic Medicine/Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Program that is designed to provide advanced training for physicians in the clinical care (both surgical and non-surgical) of patients with pelvic floor disorders; to expand knowledge in obstetrics and gynecology, urology, colorectal surgery and geriatric medicine; and to instruct and mentor in the planning and performing of meaningful research in this field.

The division’s areas of research include medical, behavioral, and surgical management of urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic floor disorders in women.  We receive research funding from the NIDDK, NICHD, the John A. Hartford Foundation, the American Geriatrics Society, and various industry sponsors. Current support for research totals approximately $1 million. Our faculty works in conjunction with UAB's Continence and Urogynecology Care Clinics, which the National Association For Continence (NAFC) named its first Center of Excellence: Continence Care. Patients are referred from private practices locally and throughout the Southeast, as well as from resident services.
