Rui Lu, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Medicine, has been named the latest recipient of the school's Featured Discovery award. This recognition celebrates notable research contributions made by faculty and highlights the impact of their scientific advancements.

The UAB Department of Microbiology and the Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) hosted the inaugural HIV Basic and Translational Research Symposium Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at the UAB Hilton Hotel. The all-day event featured speakers from the university and Southern Research, time for discussion, and a poster session.

Qasim Hussaini, M.D., assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology and health systems researcher at the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, is the latest winner of the Heersink School of Medicine’s Featured Discovery. This honor acknowledges and celebrates the important research made by Heersink’s faculty members.

John Osborne, Ph.D., assistant professor of Medicine at the Informatics Institute, recently received a notice of award for a U24 supplement to develop a cancer algorithm predicting the severity of cancer recurrence in patients. The work will build on previously funded work to identify recurrence retrospectively in UAB cancer patients using structured EHR data and clinical text.
