For the past several years physicians, residents and members of the medical community have come together annually to support the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Doctors for the ASO initiative.
Aimed at increasing awareness of the educational, economic and artistic benefits of the ASO to the medical community, Doctors for the ASO is one of two distinct professional giving societies of the Symphony. Doctors for the ASO is supported by dozens of members, as well as through significant investments from VIVA Health, the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation, the UAB School of Medicine and the UAB Health System. Doctors for the ASO is chaired by Anupam Agarwal, M.D., director of the UAB Division of Nephrology. Members of the society are recognized annually at a Regions Masterworks concert.
This year’s concert is slated for Friday, Feb. 21, featuring Music Director Laureate Justin Brown and acclaimed soprano Heidi Melton. Works to be performed include the "William Tell Overture" as well as selected pieces from "Un Ballo in Maschera" and "Tristan und Isolde." The highlight of the evening will be Ms. Melton’s voice in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15.
Involvement in Doctors for the ASO is an excellent way to demonstrate support for the work of the ASO. Those interested in joining can contact ASO Director of Development John Stone at 205-314-6902 or via email at jstone@alabamasymphony.com. Please join by Friday, Feb. 14 in order to ensure concert recognition and to reserve tickets.
