The UAB Department of Pathology is pleased to announce a new faculty member joining our team, effective June 1.
XiaoXiao Hao, M.D., Ph.D., is joining the Division of Genomic Diagnostics and Bioinformatics as an assistant professor. Hao joins us from the UAB Department of Genetics, where she recently earned her Ph.D. in 2025.
Hao earned her medical degree from Xi’an Medical University in Xi’an, Shaanxi, China, in 2012 and completed a residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine at Southern Medical University in Guangdong, China in 2018. She joined the laboratory of Anindya Dutta, Ph.D., professor and chair in the UAB Department of Genetics, in 2021 where she completed doctoral and postdoctoral training.
Hao is experienced with clinical disease diagnosis in hematology, including molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, karyotyping, and flow cytometry in malignant hematologic disorders. She has gained a strong foundation in genomic disease interpretations under the mentorship of Alicia Gomes, MS, CGC, director of UAB Industry Genetics and Genomics.
Hao received the ASCP Molecular Biology Certification in January 2026. She has extensive experience training and mentoring graduate students and visiting scholars in laboratory research and data interpretation, has more than 15 publications, and delivered 15 conference presentations.
