Todd B. Smith, Ph.D., has been named director of Administration and Fiscal Affairs for the Montgomery and Selma Regional Medical Campus.
Smith assumed the Montgomery position on Sept. 1, assuming the role held previously by Valerie Johnson Treat, who is leaving the School of Medicine after 25 years of loyal and dedicated service.
As part of a shared services management model within the UAB Office of the Provost, Smith most recently served as the administrator for the UAB School of Optometry and the UAB School of Education. Smith began his career in health care administration at the Mobile Infirmary where he was manager of cancer services. In 2001 he began his service to the UAB School of Medicine, serving as a research administrator within the Departments of Radiology and Pediatrics, as well as the Division of Preventive Medicine. Smith is also an adjunct instructor in the UAB School of Health Professions and the School of Nursing where he routinely teaches graduate-level courses in quantitative methods, leadership and health care management.
Smith, a graduate of Sidney Lanier (LAMP) High School in Montgomery, received his bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Auburn University Montgomery in 1996. Soon thereafter, he completed a Master in Business Administration and a Master in Health Services Administration from UAB. He also completed a Ph.D. in Health Services Administration from UAB Schools of Health Professions and Business in 2011.
