David C. Pigott, M.D., a professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, was honored by the American College of Emergency Physicians as its 2015 Spokesperson of the Year.
Pigott, who is the department’s vice chair for academic development, became ACEP’s point person for speaking with the news media about the recent Ebola crisis in the fall of 2014. He handled scores of media calls during the height of the Ebola outbreak, including with Fox Business News, The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, The Houston Chronicle, The Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Discovery News and The Associated Press. Pigott also spoke with dozens of reporters at ACEP’s annual conference in Chicago in October.
ACEP says Pigott provided invaluable help in developing the organization’s public messages regarding Ebola and set the gold standard for rapid-response crisis communications.
ACEP is the national medical specialty society representing emergency medicine. ACEP is committed to advancing emergency care through continuing education, research and public education. Headquartered in Dallas, ACEP has 53 chapters representing each state, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
