UAB will introduce Dinner Lab to Birmingham on Friday, April 17 at the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center Celebration. Dinner Lab is a membership-based social dining platform that creates unique pop-up experiences connecting undiscovered chefs with adventurous diners at unconventional spaces.
Celebration guests will be the first to experience Dinner Lab in Birmingham and without having to purchase a membership. As a special incentive for MHRC supporters, Dinner Lab will offer a special membership price the night of the Celebration. Members can attend events in any Dinner Lab city ranging from NYC to LA; New Orleans to Philadelphia; Atlanta to Boston. Chef Kwame Onwuachi, formerly of Eleven Madison Park and Per Se in New York City, will curate the Celebration’s five-course menu. In keeping with the spontaneity of a pop-up party, the space is a secret that will be revealed to right before the event.
"We are pleased to introduce Dinner Lab to Birmingham," said Monda Fouad, M.D., MPH, founding director of the the UAB MHRC. “Dinner Lab nurtures rising chefs, giving them an opportunity to experiment and excel, similar to the support the MHRC provides for scientists and scholars working to reduce health disparities." Proceeds from this event will support MHRC programs to improve the health of vulnerable populations and disadvantaged communities in Alabama and across the country.
Why Birmingham? Chief Culinary Officer (and Birmingham native) Francisco “Paco” Robert says, “Birmingham is a great town for people who love good food. We want to introduce Birmingham to new chefs, new cuisines, and a new way of dining out. If we can support the UAB MHRC’s work to translate science into better health for all, it’s a win-win situation for everyone."
Tickets for the MHRC Celebration are $150, with sponsorship opportunities starting at $3,000. For more information, visit www.uab.edu/mhrc.
