The Department of Neurobiology is hosting two yearlong seminar series designed to foster community and advance knowledge within the field.
The department seminar series invites world-renowned neuroscientists to UAB to share their research and engage with department faculty and postdoctoral fellows.
The second seminar series will introduce a new postdoc-led series titled, “Future of Neuroscience,” that will feature four outstanding early career neuroscientists who are currently, soon to be, or who recently completed job searches in the academic job market. This series will offer a wealth of information to postdocs who are preparing or starting in the academic job market.
All series will take place in Bevill Biomedical Research Building, room 170, on Thursdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Ingram to open fall series
The first department series will host Susan Ingram, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Visiting Professor and Endowed Traystman Vice Chair of Research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, on Aug. 29.
Her lab, The Ingram Lab, aims to understand the changes in brain cells and their connections caused by inflammation-related pain or frequent use of pain-relieving drugs. A key area of her research is a part of the brain called the ventrolateral periaqueductal gray (vlPAG), which helps control pain. Her research is focused on understanding how GPCRs, different types of receptors on the brain, change their behavior in response to pain or drug use.
