Donna Bailer, executive administrator in the Department of Neurosurgery, has been selected as a recipient of the inaugural Dean’s Excellence Awards for Staff.
“I am honored to be a recipient of this award! I’m profoundly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the mission of the institution and the Heersink School of Medicine. I strive to lead by example and hope that I am creating an environment where excellence is encouraged, rewarded, and embedded as a shared vision. I must thank my wonderful team members who work together to make great things happen. I didn’t do this alone,” said Bailer.
Bailer has been with the Department of Neurosurgery for 10 years and is the department’s first full time administrator. She is patient and understanding, and those around her receive firsthand experience with her incredible work.
Bailer actively promotes effective communication and fosters personal and professional growth, sharing her knowledge through regularly scheduled information sessions for staff on various topics, including policies, processes, and development opportunities. She is a dedicated mentor, offering valuable hands-on experience and serving on committees within the department and hospital. Her ability to collaborate, solve challenges, and approach issues with compassion has earned her a positive reputation throughout UAB.
She is fully engaged with the clinic staff and is always looking for opportunities to improve patient experience, ensuring patients receive the best care possible.
Bailer’s integrity, indefatigable work ethic, care for those she works with, and dedication to UAB and its principles come across in all her duties.
“Donna understands all aspects of the department and works tirelessly to ensure success and growth,” said Department of Neurosurgery operations manager Kirsten Yelvington.
The Heersink School of Medicine Dean’s Excellence Awards for Staff recognize and honor individual Heersink staff members who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments and significantly supported Heersink’s core mission areas of education, clinical care, and research.
