On April 22, 2023, students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) professional schools will join with UAB's Anatomical Donor Program (ADP) to host a memorial service honoring those who donated their bodies to scientific learning. Family members of the donors are invited to attend the 1 p.m. ceremony in Volker Hall Lecture Room A, 1670 University Blvd. The service will also be streamed live through a Zoom webinar and be made available online afterward.
The service--including words of remembrance, a candle-lighting ceremony, and live instrumental music--will be led by members of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Nursing, and Health Professions, and the College of Arts and Sciences. The ceremony's purpose is to thank the donors who selflessly contributed to the learning experiences of the health professional students at UAB and to show the impact of those contributions on students' education.
Donors' names are also to be added to the Donor Memorial, located between the Heersink School of Medicine and Lister Hill Medical Library. More than 250 family members and relatives of program donors are expected to attend.
