Equal Access Birmingham will host its 8th annual Heart + Sole 5K run on Saturday, Nov. 5 to raise funds for the UAB Heersink School of Medicine’s free health care clinic, which provides health care to underserved and uninsured populations in Birmingham and the greater Birmingham area.
Runners are encouraged to participate the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 5 by completing 3.1 miles and uploading results on the leader dashboard on RunSignup. Medical students registering for the race can join the team for the Learning Community and compete against other LCs for most participation in the race.
Runners can also attend a post-race gathering from 4-9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov 5 at Ghost Train Brewing, 3501 1st Ave. N., Birmingham, AL 35222. A portion of drink sales from the evening will be donated to EAB.
All proceeds go to benefit operations for the EAB Clinic, which is open twice a week on Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon. EAB hosts a monthly mental health clinic and conducts health screenings at community events to promote health education.
Early bird registration is open online now. Cost is $30 through Oct. 7, increasing to $35 after the early bird deadline.
Participants are encouraged to take pictures while running the race and upload to social media with the hashtag #EABHeartSole5k.
EAB was created in 2005 to provide high-quality health care to underserved and vulnerable populations in Birmingham while provide enriching service-learning experiences for UAB medical students and other health professional students.
