Nominations for the 2022 Dean’s Excellence Awards are now open. This annually awarded honor is bestowed upon faculty who have made incredible contributions in the areas of service, teaching, research, mentorship, and diversity enhancement across the Heersink School of Medicine.
Last year’s Dean’s Excellence Award winners were nominated and selected due to their “immense impact on the UAB campus and our greater community,” said Selwyn M. Vickers, M.D., FACS, dean of the Heersink School of Medicine, CEO of the UAB Health System and CEO of UAB/Ascension St. Vincent’s Alliance.
Last year’s recipients include:
Teaching: Peter Anderson, DVM, Ph.D., Robin Lester, Ph.D., Frida Rosenblum Donath, M.D., and Rebekah Weil, M.D.
Research: Christine Curcio, Ph.D., Sadis Matalon, Ph.D., Dr.Sc. (Hon.), FAPS, and Ashley Harms, Ph.D.
Service: Edgar Turner Overton, M.D., William Stephen Stigler, M.D., Susan Cecelia Hutto, M.D., Rachael Lee, M.D., Carlie Stein Somerville, M.D., Sixto Leal Jr., M.D., Ph.D., and Lauren Tanner, M.D., FACS
Mentorship: Karen Cropsey, Psy.D, and Brandi McCleskey, M.D.
Diversity: Seth Landefeld, M.D., and Samantha Hill, M.D.
The Dean's Leadership Team will oversee the peer-review process for this year's awards. Full-time faculty members can nominate a faculty colleague for any award. The nomination letter should specify the award and should not exceed one page. The letters should be typed in 11-point font with 1-inch margins, and submitted as .pdf files to Kelly Moore (kellymoore@uab.edu) no later than Monday, March 21 at 5 p.m. An up-to-date copy of the nominated faculty member’s curriculum vitae should be included with the nomination letter.
