New cohort of Health Equity Scholars selected

Health Equity Scholars is a competitive three-year program designed to develop physician leaders with the knowledge and skills to promote health equity for medically underserved communities.  

Health equity is, according to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, “The absence of disadvantage to individuals and communities in health outcomes, access to health care, and quality of health care regardless of one’s race, gender, nationality, age, ethnicity, religion and socioeconomic status.”  

The new cohort for the Class of 2024 was selected in February. Students selected for the program include Gazal Arora, Willow Bryan, Ayaka Fujihashi, Meghna Katta, Austin Kidd, Thomas Kozar, Fallon Lalor, Kalissa Means, Paxton Peacock, Brannen Uhlman, and Hannah Woodard.

By the end of the program, these scholars will have participated in 12 hours of service learning, 40 hours of direct service work, a scholarly project examining health equity issues, the chance to teach preclinical students during their service learning activities, and the completion of HES Program trainings where they will learn more about health equity.
