Megann Bates Cain, MPPM, has been named chief development officer for the School of Medicine, which became effective Jan. 1. Bates Cain provided outstanding interim leadership to the School of Medicine’s advancement team over the last 13 months. She led our fundraising officers to reach an incredible $59 million in new contributions in 2020, and she has worked to develop and deploy a new organizational structure to maximize our productivity to sustain and grow these efforts.
Bates Cain brings a wealth of leadership development experience to this role, having worked extensively to create and deliver the Leadership Department of Medicine Program that has trained 231 leaders over the past 4 years. In addition, her experience in strategic planning – as a key leader in the Department of Medicine and advancement strategic planning initiatives – positions her for the work ahead in the School of Medicine. These skills were invaluable in the School of Medicine’s recent realignment of the advancement team, an effort that sharpened our focus on grateful patient engagement and alumni relations.
Her relationships with our donors and alumni, faculty and trainees, patients, and community partners set the tone for creating positive and productive philanthropic opportunities that help us move medicine forward every day.
