Equal Access Birmingham, the UAB School of Medicine’s student-run free healthcare clinic, will hosts its 6th annual Heart + Soul 5K run this year as a virtual race weekend. All proceeds go to benefit the clinic, which provides healthcare to uninsured and underinsured patients in Birmingham. Runners can participate over a scheduled race weekend from Oct. 17- 18 by completing 3.1 miles and uploading results on the leader dashboard on Run Signup.
Registration is open online through race weekend for $33. Participants will receive their T-shirt by mail to the address provided during registration.
Choose your route and distance and run or walk your 5k while following social distancing guidelines. Participants are encouraged to take pictures while running the race and upload to social media with the hashtag #EABHeartSole5k. Be sure to wear your T-shirt or UAB gear.
EAB was created in 2005 to provide high-quality health care to underserved and vulnerable populations in Birmingham while provide enriching service-learning experiences for UAB medical students and other health professional students. Since January 2019, student volunteers have seen 1,037 patients at the EAB Clinic, which opened in downtown Birmingham in November 2012. Visit the EAB website to learn more.
