Do-Yeon Cho, M.D., M.S., assistant professor and director of Otolaryngology Research in the Department of Otolaryngology, recently received two awards to support his research.
He received the Triological Society Career Development Award to support his chronic sinusitis research, titled “The Role of Mucin Degrading Anaerobes in the Pathogenesis of Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Pseudomonas.” His research on microbiome and chronic sinusitis addresses an extremely prevalent clinical problem for which well-controlled experimentation is lacking. The Triological Society is the premier academic society in otolaryngology. It awarded Cho $40,000 beginning Aug. 1.
“I am so honored to receive the Triological Society’s Career Development Award,” Cho said. “This is a stepping stone to becoming an active fellow of the society and a leader in our field.”
Cho also received a K08 award from the National Institutes of Health for his project, titled “Dysbiosis of the Sinus Microbiota in Chronic Rhinosinusitis.” The award is a three-year grant of $154,000 per year. Cho’s research examines the potential role of the sinus bacterial microbiota within chronic rhinosinusitis, which is characterized by persistent inflammation of the nose and the paranasal sinuses.
